Happy International Abolition Day!

Today is International Death Penalty Abolition Day.

On March 1, 1847, Michigan became the first state in the U.S. (and the first political jurisdiction in the western world) to abolish the death penalty.

I'm gonna go eat cake.

In Tennessee, we celebrated with write-a-thons around the state to urge our elected officials to enact a moratorium on executions. It was a lot of fun (you can read all about it at www.tcask.org) How did other states choose to memorialize?
