What a mother must feel

Just got word that Reggie Clemons' death sentence has been reinstated by a three-judge panel of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Reggie's mom, Vera Thomas, is a minister who sits on the board of directors of NCADP. This is very sad. As Vera spoke to me on the phone, she sounded as if she might collapse.

It is just as devastating for a mother of a death row inmate to cope with her son's death as a mother of a person who has been murdered. They feel the same grief, and thus the death penalty must be abolished. His mother's feelings have everything to do with an honest representation of the death penalty's effects on society.
